The WSBHD comes up every 25th of October. The day was established and designated by International Federation for Spina Bifida & Hydrocephalus (IF)General Assembly in Guatemala 2011 with the aim of raising awareness and understanding about Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. It serves also as means to advocate and promote the rights of persons with these conditions.

WSBHD was held for the first time on 25 October 2012 at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Supported by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Since then, Festus Fajemilo Foundation has collaborated with IF to raise awareness, advocate for increased access to quality healthcare delivery for persons living with these conditions and promote primary prevention. In Nigeria.

There have been successes recorded over these periods. These include increased number of patients/families seeking medical intervention through the Foundation, increased media awareness and reportage in Nigeria, increased memberships of the Foundation among others.
